This Week: Nautical Almanac 3/20

This week's Live Constructions will feature a visit from legendary noise group, Nautical Almanac. Emerging from the mid-90's Michigan scene that birthed Wolf Eyes, Andrew W.K., and other revolutionary noise-rock projects, Nautical Almanac's core duo, of Carly Ptak and Twig Harper, alter states of consciousness with an increasingly multimedia live show. The band, based in Baltimore, will be in New York for shows at Roulette and Death By Audio this weekend, and are coming into WKCR to talk about their artistic endeavors, the evolution of their sound, their involvement in the Baltimore music scene, and more. Tune in at 10 p.m. Sunday night. Check out www.heresee.com for information about Nautical Almanac as well as Ptak and Harper's incredible record label, Heresee.

This Week: Joan La Barbara 3/13

Joan La Barbara will be joining us in the WKCR studios for an interview with Dan Malinsky. La Barbara came in most recently to promote her performance at the VitalVox Festival at Issue Project Room in November 2010. We are excited to have her back to discuss her upcoming solo vocal performance at Greenwich House on March 17 as part of the 25th anniversary of the North River Music Series.

She recently premiered her work "In Solitude is this fear lived" for voice, orchestra and sonic atmosphere with American Composers Orchestra, "Playing it Unsafe" project (March 4th).
